Careers & Internships

Operation Warfighter Program

The CIA, a proud participant of Operation Warfighter, supports recovering service members convalescing at military centers by identifying temporary assignments and opportunities benefiting both the service member and CIA.

Participants in Operation Warfighter work outside of the medical center environment and gain career experience using their military and non-military skills while completing an internship at CIA. Work schedules are flexible and accommodate medical treatment and recuperation. Generally, participants work approximately 20 hours per week and are paid by their respective armed service organization.

The program is open to active duty members in the Washington, DC area, including service members on medical hold, even if assigned to the National Guard and/or a Reserve Component unit. Eligible participants are:

  • Wounded, ill or injured Active Duty Service Members
  • Wounded, ill or injured Mobilized Reservists and National Guardsmen
  • Must be assigned to a Warrior Transition Unit

All internship opportunities require a Top Secret security clearance. Eligible candidates who do not currently hold a Top Secret security clearance will be processed for a clearance if offered an internship by CIA.

There is no promise of permanent employment with the Agency upon completion of an assignment; however, participants with appropriate education, training and experience separating from the military are encouraged to apply for full-time employment with CIA.

Operation Warfighter is operated in conjunction with the Department of Defense and overseen administratively by the Defense Intelligence Agency.

All interested candidates are strongly encouraged to apply by contacting the Operation Warfighter Regional Coordinator at their medical center.
