The Office of Equal Employment Opportunity and Diversity Management (OEEO&DM) at the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) has openings for part-time certified American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreters. For more information about the NRO, see our website at www.nro.gov. Successful candidates must be energetic self-starters with well developed interpersonal and communications skills. Additionally, he or she would bring to the job demonstrated abilities to manage complex interoffice and interagency projects tailored to the Deaf and hard-of-hearing customers' requirements.
Successful candidates must display the ability to thrive in a challenging, creative and informal working environment. In the part time position, candidates would work 32 hours a week. This position requires the ability to travel between NRO buildings. Foreign and Domestic temporary duty (TDY) travel may be required.
Due to the variety of positions held by the NRO's Deaf and hard-of-hearing employees, our interpreters must be flexible when it comes to assignments, have a diverse vocabulary, and a dedication to their customers.
Minimum requirements include:
- Ability to work within a changing schedule
- Outstanding communications skills
- Strong Signing and voicing skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- Interpersonal skills and ability to interact with colleagues from a variety of backgrounds (customers, colleges and management)
- Broad knowledge of technical and human resource vocabulary
- Strong understanding of ASL and Deaf culture
- RID CI/CT, NAD Level 4 or 5 certification, or National Interpreter Certification (Advanced or Masters).
These positions require a 5-year Contract Term Agreement.
