The Central Intelligence Agency has a limited number of opportunities for skilled tradesmen/women in the Packer/Crater Occupational Specialty. Officers selected for these positions are hired as prevailing rate employees and are paid via the Federal Wage Grade Schedule (WG). The Wage Grade scale ensures that these officers are paid at the prevailing rate for the locality in which they are hired. Wage Grade employees have the opportunity to train and compete for other wage grade positions and normally do not transition into General Schedule positions without additional formal education, internal training or other experiences.
Developmental packers/craters, using established process and procedures, perform routine packing of various materials to include electronic and computer equipment, administrative supplies and medical items for shipment domestically or overseas. Packers/Craters are also responsible for the preparation of appropriate shipping documentation and labeling as required for surface and/or air shipments.
Minimum qualifications include a High school diploma or GED equivalent. Candidate must also possess and maintain a forklift certification and have six months of progressively responsible packer/crater work experience.
All applicants must successfully complete a thorough medical and psychological exam, a polygraph exam, a polygraph interview and an extensive background investigation. US citizenship is required.
To be considered suitable for Agency employment, applicants must generally not have used illegal drugs within the last twelve months. The issue of illegal drug use prior to twelve months ago is carefully evaluated during the medical and security processing.
