As a Technical Project Engineer, you will lead projects that deliver key capabilities to accomplish the United States intelligence mission. Your teams will solve complex problems under your leadership by applying your project management, systems engineering, and people skills. A career as a Technical Project Engineer will challenge you to apply your skills across the vast, global variety of technical and mission domains in the CIA.

Technical Project Engineers drive critical technology programs in the Directorate of Digital Innovation (DDI) and turn user needs into operating capabilities. Your responsibilities involve integration of programmatic, technical, systems engineering, business, and personnel elements of project, including:

  • Defining requirements, concepts of operation, and architectures
  • Tailoring and applying program management and systems engineering processes
  • Leading and defending technical and programmatic decisions
  • Developing, managing, and defending cost and schedule
  • Conducting acquisition planning and source selection

Opportunities may exist for domestic and foreign travel, technical and management training, and assignments in other offices in the CIA.

US citizenship required (dual-national US citizens eligible). All positions require relocation to the Washington, DC metro area.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in one of the following fields or related studies:
    • Engineering
    • Computer Science
  • GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4-point scale
  • Skill to elicit, document, and manage requirements
  • Ability to identify all components of a project and create the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) detailing all project tasks and deliverables
  • Ability to use foundational knowledge in systems engineering to effectively communicate project technical, functional, operational, resource, contract, and system engineering components among stakeholders
Desired Qualifications:
  • A degree, coursework, or experience in a designated Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) field
  • Experience as a technical project manager
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to attract, acquire, organize, manage, lead, retain, and adjust the project team
  • Ability to work independently and in a group
  • Self-starter attitude with initiative
  • Creativity
