O'Donnell's 'I'm Not a Witch' Ad: Silly or Shrewd?
October 05, 2010 9:05 AM
That's the question on my mind this morning. When I first saw the ad my mind flipped to Nixon's "I'm not a crook" moment, and one of the first lessons you learn in politics:never repeat the charge. But might Christine O’Donnell and her team be on to something?
Watch my analysis here and tell me what you think…

"I'm not a witch." But isn't that exactly what a witch WOULD say to try to convince you she's not a witch? Ergo, she must be.
Not really, of course, but it's the kind of pathetic logic that seems to pass for meaningful debate. And unfortunately, the rest of her empty platitudes are disguised because people are talking about the utterly silly opening line.
If O'Donnell is an "outsider," it's simply because she couldn't achieve her goal multiple times in the past. She's no neophyte driven to action by some great sense of duty that welled up in her over the past few months. She would gladly have been part of the establishment since she ran several times for office before Tea Party meant anything other than something that happened on a boat up in Boston.
It's a sad, sad commentary that people won't dig deeper than outlandish, irrelevant comments, be that to criticize her or question her claims.

I'm sure O'Donnell was payed well to make outrageous comments on that TV show. It reminds me of the politicians that used to go on the Colbert show. They also, tried to be funny. But O'Donnell CAN WIN this election!! I only have one question for her. HOW WILL SHE VOTE?? Washington D.C. has turned it's back on us and we are angry.

It's pretty funny. C.O. says in effect, "I am not a witch; I used to be a ditz and I still am a ditz."
Who cares if she was a ditz ten years ago; it's being a ditz with no intelligence saying, "I am not a witch",that's important today.
It is better to be thought stupid than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt.

If she weighs the same as a duck, then she's a witch... :)

Oh, for heaven's sake George. Will you please report on something with substance? Look at your "recent posts." Slam Republicans, praise Democrats. Try RESEARCHING instead of going to the WH talking points page.

Although the polls show this lady is behind in the race now, I have a feeling we will see her come from behind and become a formitable opponent. I think both O'Donnell and her team did their homework on this one and it was a wise candidate.

I wish she were a witch! I'd ask her to turn all the liars in Politics into the donkey asses they really are!!

I'm offended as a Witch (Wiccan) by the religious insensitivity. It's ridiculous that people can't see through the Hollywood BS and realize that Wicca is a real religion of very gentle people following a different path to God. She and others need to start acting like thinking adults. The Military recognizes our right to be burried in National Cemetaries with the pentacle on our graves, allows us spaces to worship and shows respect for our faith. I will never vote for someone who can not remember this country was founded on the concept of religious freedom...

If this ignorant blank gets elected America truly is a giant trailer park. The Tea Party has turned into a fffing joke. Comedy gold.

NO, she's not a witch. The proper word to describe her begins with the letter "b."

The opposition's efforts to paint Christine O'Donnell as a right wing fringe nut job with an iffy past takes a serious right hook as a result of this ad. Ms. O'Donnell comes across as your next door neighbor, someone you'd like to get to know and opens up a chance for her to re-introduce herself to Delaware. She may not be the best candidate, however her ideas are definitely the right antidote for an out of control and arrogant federal governance. Don't count her out yet; This could get very interesting.

O'Donnell, "I'm not a witch, I'm just stupid and say ridiculous things, giggle giggle".
Posted by: JR | Oct 5, 2010 11:37:25 AM
Ms. Bunnie, standard Fundamentalist doctrine is that all religions other than mainstream Protestant churches are the work of Satan - Mormons, Catholics, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddists, etc, we're all on the same bus straight to Hell.
Even if O'Donnell understands the vast differences between Wicca and Satanism, she'll never admit it, because her strongest base doesn't accept that there is a meaningful difference.
Of course, her success thus far may be the result of a specific deal with dark forces... naaaah, that's just crazy talk.

I'm glad she felt she had to come out and defend herself. Politics is more about the candidate's religious beliefs than anything else! The Religious Right has pushed that with full force, so now we have one of "them" defending herself against something that shouldn't even matter. Good! The tables are turned. I'm happy to see more people worried about whether O'Donnell is a witch than Obama is a Muslim!

Well, George, the first thing you thought was the "Im not a crook". The first thing I though of was the "I did not have sex with that woman". Guess it's all a matter of perspective, isn't it?! I think it's a homerun for her.
