Pakistan re-elected to ECOSOC; Haroon calls it ‘fabulous victory’ -
UNITED NATIONS, Oct. 26 (APP): Pakistan was re-elected Monday to the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the economic arm of the UN, for the third consecutive year, with Ambassador Abdullah Hussain Haroon calling it a “fabulous victory”.  “It’s a fabulous victory for Pakistan. It reflects the prestige Pakistan enjoys in the international community,” the top Pakistani diplomat told APP after Pakistan polled 149 votes in balloting at the 192-member General Assembly.


Pakistan has role in Afghan resolution : US -
WASHINGTON, Oct 25 (APP): Pakistan has a role to play in Afghan reconciliation  process and a political element is important to resolving the ongoing conflict in  Afghanistan, according to a senior United States envoy.  Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, Richard Holbrooke rejected  the assertion that Pakistan army is opposed to Afghan reconciliation.

Sultan calls for solution of Kashmir issue -
LONDON, Oct 25 (APP)- Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, the former prime minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and leader of the People’s Muslim League (PML), underscored the need to resolve the Kashmir issue, which, he said, remained a flash point for a major conflagration  not only in South Asia but for world at large.


UK Lawyers condemns terrorist attacks on ‘Baba Farid Darbar’ at Pakpattan -
LONDON, Oct 25 (APP)-The UK-based Association of  Pakistani Lawyers on Monday condemned terrorist bomb attack at the shrine of “Baba Farid Ganj Shakkar” in Pakpattan and  demanded a stern action against those outlawed elements in the state.

KARACHI, Oct. 25 (APP)- Former President International Cricket Council (ICC) Ehsan Mani is disgruntled over the conduct of the game’s ruling body in connection with Indian Test batsman Suresh Raina. Pak-US dialogue reflect atmosphere of mutual trust: Arbab Alamgir PDF Print E-mail
PESHAWAR, Oct 23 (APP): Federal Minister for Communications Dr. Arbab Alamgir Khan Khalil has said that Pak-US strategic dialogue reflect the atmosphere of mutual trust between the two countries on common issues.He welcomed the announcement of aid worth 2 billion dollars for Pakistan and said that it will strengthen our economy. The stance, he said taken by the Chief of Army Staff and the Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi over Pakistan’s sovereignty, solidarity and commitment to democracy is highly commendable and has proved that we are a proud nation which makes its own decisions.

He said while talking to the media after addressing a public gathering here on Saturday. Earlier, the federal minister received applications from the peopleregarding their problems and issued instant instructions over those applications.
Dr. Arbab Alamgir Khan Khalil said that recent judgment by the apex court over the 18th Amendment is a manifestation of the supremacy of the Parliament.  Our government, he said believes in dialogue, consensus and consultations regarding all national issues and the impression of confrontation between institutions is totally baseless.
He said that democratic process continues in the country and those who spread baseless hoaxes will be defeated. The Minister said that, in fact, some forces are playing in the hands of anti democracy forces but people are well aware of their nefarious designs now and cannot be misled by such forces anymore.
Dr. Arbab Alamgir Khan Khalil said this democratic government will complete its term of five years and PPP will win the next general elections by virtue of its performance in the government.
The Federal Minister said that problems inherited from the past cannot be overcome overnight, therefore, people must be patient as government is determine to solve all their problems gradually. The Federal Minister said that government under the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has taken landmark decisions, which were never taken by any government in the past and our policies have rendered our opponents speechless.
Dr. Arbab Alamgir Khan Khalil said that we have defeated the cronies of dictatorship on every forum, and now they cannot harm democracy.
The Federal Minister said that terrorism is the greatest problem that the country faces today and our government has taken concrete steps to eradicate the menace of terrorism as our survival depends on it. Arbab Alamgir Khan Khalil said that the only objective of his politics is serving the people and he remains busy round the clock in contact with the people.
The Federal Minister spends the weekends in his home constituency of NA-2 Peshawar to monitor development work in the area and ensure their speedy completion.
