Pak-US dialogue focuses on achieving progress in specific time: Kaira |

ISLAMABAD, Oct 25 (APP): Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira said on Monday that Pak-US Strategic Dialogue was of great significance as it focused on achieving progress in development areas within the specific timelines.Talking to media after attending the Standing Committee meeting he said “We set time lines for progress in a number of development and capacity-building areas for Pakistan and a $2.29 billion new security package has been announced during the dialogue.The Minister said US has also announced $ 2 billion for defence related projects and it would have nothing to do with the coalition support fund and Kerry Lugar Bill.
The outcome of the strategic dialogue with US is positive and encouraging, he added. Qamar
Zaman Kaira said that several rounds of briefings were held with US
authorities and added that the US will extend support in healthcare,
agriculture, public outreach and economic development projects, which it
approved during the latest session of the dialogue.
Besides, he said both the countries also discussed the US support for the flood victims and their early rehabilitation.
Kaira said US President
Barack Obama stated that he wants to see the strategic partnership with
Pakistan move forward. He (Obama) announced to visit Pakistan (next
year) and invited his Pakistani counterpart (Asif Ali Zardari) to
Washington.
The Minister said President Asif Ali Zardari would soon visit the US.The US has announced
scholarship for 125 journalists and 80 officers, while about 1000
business women would also get training in US, he added.
He added that Pakistan is
fighting the war against terrorism for its own interests. “Pakistan is
fighting against terrorism is in own interest as it would bring peace
and stability in the region and the entire world.”
He added that Pakistan has
rendered unmatched sacrifices in the war against terrorism just to bring
peace and stability in the region.
Commenting on the 18th
amendment, he said it was not a bill of Pakistan Peoples’ Party rather
it was the bill of all the political parties.
He added that committee headed by Mian Raza Rabbani will review the recommendations of the Supreme Court.
