Message from the Director: Independence Day
Statement to the Workforce from D/CIA Brennan about Independence Day
July 3, 2013
As we prepare to celebrate the 237th anniversary of our Nation’s birth, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the tremendous contributions made by the women and men of the CIA to the freedom, liberty, and security of our fellow Americans over the last 66 years. Your work is essential to the national security of our great country, and we all should feel proud and privileged to be part of an intelligence agency that plays such a pivotal role in our Nation’s history. I certainly am honored to be a part of the CIA once again, which is why this Fourth of July has special meaning for me.
I hope everyone at CIA is able to spend some time on Independence Day relaxing with family and friends. For those CIA officers who are serving overseas, especially those on unaccompanied tours, please know that our thoughts are with you and that we thank you for the work you do on behalf of all Americans. And please pass along our collective thanks to your families and loved ones for the sacrifices they make in support of you and our intelligence mission.
Have a happy and safe Independence Day!
John O. Brennan
