Top 10 Lists for Mobile Phone and Internet Usage

In honor of World Telecommunications & Information Society Day, Cell-Phone.jpgon May 17, CIA.gov is highlighting interesting information on mobile phone and internet usage from the The World Factbook—CIA’s reference resource. Did you know?

  • Brazil’s mobile-cellular usage has more than tripled in the past 5 years.
  • In Russia, the estimated number of mobile subscribers jumped from fewer than 1 million in 1998 to nearly 240 million by the end of 2010.
  • Pakistani mobile-cellular subscribership has skyrocketed, from about 300,000 in 2000 to over 110 million by the end of 2011; more than 90 percent of Pakistanis have cell phone coverage at home.
