We received your colleague's 25 July 2009 facsimile appealing our 11 June 2009 final
response to your colleague's Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for "all FOIA requests
(and any negative responses sent to the requesters) made to the Central Intelligence Agency
('CIA') between 2003-2007 for articles published in the CIA in-house journal Studies in
Intelligence." Specifically, you appealed our determination to deny you access to portions of
material in 16 documents on the basis of FOIA exemptions (b)(2), (b)(3) and/or (b)(6).
Pursuant to a telephone conversation between one of my case managers and your
colleague, Kel McClanahan, on 4 August 2009, it was explained that the redactions that
appeared on the last page of certain documents referred to our internal distribution lists. Upon
hearing this explanation, Mr. McClanahan agreed to withdraw this appeal. As such, we are
canceling this appeal and closing our case.
