ATTEMPTS TO BLOCK THE LSD REACTION BY PRETREATMENT
WITH BOL FOR NO DAYS
These experiments were carried out because of the
reports of Ginzel and Mayer�Gross that 2 day's pre�
treatment with DOL completely blocked the LSO reaction
and one�day's pretreatment with BOL attenuated it.
Because of shortage of DOL, only 8 subjects could
be used. Six of these subjects had not had LSD before.
Insofar as was possible, we attempted to reproduce the
experiment of Ginzel and Mayer�Gross. The drug combi�
nations used were: BOL placebo and LSD placebo; DOL and
LSD; and BOL placebo plus LSD. Combination of BOL plus
isp placebo was not studied because of the shortage of
matertal and because it was believed that the results
would be essentially similar to those described under
acute administration of DOL.
DX was given orally. I mg. was given three times
daily for two days prior to administration of LSD, and
an additional 1 mg. was given two hours prior to LSO.
Dose of LSD varied between 1-2 mcgm./kg. of bodyweight.
Measurements included threshold for knee jerk,
pupillary size, resting systolic blood pressure, responses
