1. This is a brief report on the American Fsycholoeical As-
soeintion Convention held in Cleveland, Ohio, 1-9 3entember 1953.

2. Leaving jaehtngton on Thursday, 3 Jertember 1953, I
ettended the meetines of the convention on 4 and 5 .J'ece-ember rnd
(*.pep drove to Detroit, Uchiean where I interviTeed
,nd hreueht him un to Hato reeerding the develeements of the pro-
noeed research project in Detroit. I reterned to the convention
and attended mectines on 8 and 9 Sentember and then returned to
iashin7ton. The meetines -ecre held in five widele senereted hotels
and school buildines which made attendance difficult as meetings
were held sieultaneously at different locetions.
3. The ecnerel imoreseion of the meetines was not as
fevorel,le rs se-e others because the Papers themselvce were lienited
to tweLve minutes and there were a rood man:- symeosimms which were
more extemporaneous rather than oianned nresent-ticns. The movies
presented at the mestintes mere not interestin; from our eoint of
view althoueh techeically the: 'Jere very Food in the abeermet and
esYchiatric fields. The meeting on streee and anxiety was not as
interestine as the title milit lead one to ce:nect. Chemical

5. The ehysiolor;ical meetirr:s were interestim7 but nothiw:
very new wvs Presented. Temporary relief of fear by sodiuq-Pento-
barbital injection was whet wrus to be ex?ected with the dm; and
ernerimental setup presented.
6. The meetin:; on the Preference for saccarin was an attemut
to determine mhether eaccarin or sodium is the attraction factor
in rats who are starved. The results of the red-green discrimina-
tion in the dog were nePative.
7. There VAS a much lar;er number of industrial os7cho1oists
who attended the meeting and many of the symposiums were devoted to
the introduction of nsycholoeical techni-ues in industrial ,..:roups.
