Siragusa reported staying at the apartment once or twice and that used it whenever he was in N.Y. He knew of the mirror and stated there was no installed electronic equipment. He had assumed the Agency wanted the apartment for polygraph interviews. Siragusa knew George White well. Had visited the West Coast pad once or twice but remembered little of it. He stated that he had the reputation of a "straight guy" in the office; hence George and others would not have taken him into their confidence if any illicit activities had been going on. Regarding his T.V. appearance on the Altmeyer program where he reported, referring to CIA, that "they" requested him to lie or plead the 5th to Senate investigators "they" referred to Ray Treichler who was even then retired. Siragusa said Ray was furious when he learned that Siragusa had already testified, had admitted the safehouse and had named Treichler. When asked why Treichler was so nervous about the apartment, when apparently nothing went on there, he didn't know other than that Ray just didn't want to be associated with it. The program took his remarks about the Agency out of context. He was in 0.S.S., knows Janes Murphy and Jim Angleton well, and thinks highly of them and CIA. The program editors cut all of his favorable remarks. Investigators werelMallt (DEA) andablEMEMCIA ()0 b7) tb) NOINUNDUNI FOR THE RECORD SUBJECT: Synposis of Interview with Charles Siragusa (alias Cail Salerno)in West Palm Beach, Florida on 10 April 1979, Siragusa knew almost nothing about the actual use of the . safehouses. Siragusa was stationed in the Washington headquarters of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics, not New York City. One of his responsibilities was liason with CIA. Anslinger introduced Ray Treichler to Siragusa and told Siragusa to "take Treichler back to your office to see if you can help him". Siragusa reports that most of Anslinger's directions were equally vague. Ray wanted to set up a safehouse (apartment) in N.Y. and wanted F.B.N. to do it for him. - Ray indicated he would make little use of it and that other times it was available to the F.B.N. Ray made it sound like it was being done as a favor to the F.B.N. An apartment at 105 West 13th was obtained. John Tagley (deceased) took care of the details of obtaining and maintaining the apartment. Siragusa maintained an accounting, receipts, etc. until his retirement when all that material, believed to be of no consequence, was destroyed - well before any controversy on the safehouses came to light. Siragusa has little use for Feldman and indicated it will be iMpossible in talking with him to separate truth from fiction. Ray Treichler always spoke very favorably of Feldman, as a can do sort of guy, and tried to protect him. Tagley: (deceased) An excellent photographer and would have known of photography in safehouse if any. Otherwise is unlikely to have known about safehouse activities - if any. Shrewd. Although not indicated by his position he actually ran the N.Y. office. If anyone knew of any activities such as the alleged drug activities he would have. Probably made more use of the a artment than ONO. He now runs the Chicago Branch Office of an
