The remaining transporters carried four B 40 rounds. ,At 1900 hours on the first day of TET (30 January 1968), the 100-man bearer. group left TAN BINH for SAIGON. The group was led by Company 1, Battilion 6,. which was composed of more than 60 men armed with AK rifles and B4OS. Each ammunition bearer carried about 400 AK rounds. The entire group moved from TAN BINH to PHU DINH Area, west of CHOLON, passing near TAN NHUT Village. Arriving in PHU DINH during the early morning of 31 January, the group remained until dark in uninhabited local houses whose occupants had already been, evacuated. Half the group was led away to an unknown destination. The remaining 50 people, left PHU DINH for SAIGON at dusk, stopping 3.3(h)(2) twice en route in neighborhoods whose residents had been evacuated. BE saw no local people along the Route. ':.Travelling between PHU DINH and the VUON LAI Intersection-Saw three 50-man, military groups moving toward SAIGON, armed, AK rifles, B4OS and B415. As group did, this unit moved at night saw no other ammunition transport groups along the road to SAION. The'personnel split up into lour or five smaller groups .0.44 each group having 11 or 12 ammunition bearers. The bearers were ordered to follow the military personnel into combat and furnish them,with ammunition' once their origiial issue was expended: The bearers were not - advised of their destinations. 3.3(h)(2; 3.3(h)(2) rations were not issued before the trip to SAIGON began. The soldiers fouiid!,food in the abandoned houses in which they rested en route to SAIGON.
