The story of the UBL exhibit is quite complex. For reasons beyond the scope of this note, some
of the Directorates were opposed to displaying this artifact in the CIA Museum. After lengthy debate
(over a year), CIO/IMS over-ruled the objection on the condition that it would only be in the CIA
museum and not otherwise released. These artifacts are phenomenally popular with visitors to the
Museum. If we pull the sheet all the way back on this, we'll let you know, there are a few other
artifacts and paintings around CIA that have similar issues.
Toni Hiley, the CIA Museum Curator is the driving force in researching, identifying, obtaining
and leveraging artifacts that help make our past real to those working here, family, and visitors. Having

hosted a briefing last Friday at CIA HQ. Would you be able
when I Nalked them through the Museum display
corridor, the mounted display of UBLs AK-47 was one display that they really liked to see. Could you pls
check to see if there's a photograph of that display available? If so, how can I get a copy (either print or
digital). If not available, how can I get permission to have a picture taken? - - - either by IPS or by an
Agency employee who has a photo-badge? Thanks!
