I understand that various members of Congress have requested
the Department of Justice (DOJ) investigate certain alleged
improper activities of the New York City Police Department
(NYPD), and include within its investigation a review of the
Central Intelligence Agency's (CIA) relationship with the NYPD.
The congressional requests referenced media reports concerning
these matters.
As you consider these congressional requests, you may al'so
wish to consider the views of the CIA's Inspector General (IG)
sregarding CIA's relationship with the NYPD. The CIA's IG
recently completed a review of certain CIA support to, and
involvement with, the NYPD, including the NYPD Intelligence
Division (NYPD-ID). CIA notified the intelligence.Oversight
Board of the inquiry and has, provided information to both .
Congressional Intelligence Oversight Committees.
The Executive Summary of the. Inspector General's report is
enclosed for your consideration. Please let me know if we may
be of any further assistance to you or the Department in this
matter.
