Your recollections and observations served as a vital check
on information obtained elsewhere, while your insistence that
Chile was only one of a multitude of problems calling for your
attention was a useful reminder that we historians must not let
our preoccupation with a single issue skew our perception of
the way matters presented themselves to decision makers at the
time.
