T am fn warding--at last--the 41 documents from your and
Ires at the Harry S. Truman Library, along with
a copy of the Library's shipping manifest. We can release the
following CIA-originated documents for your classified history
of cryptology in the post-World War II period:
TOP SECRET codeword documents Nos. 1 through 30,
33, and 36 through 41.
We shall also forward Nos. 31, 32, 34 and 35 even though
CIA did not originate them, since NSA and the originating
agencies have all signed the "Interagency Agreement on Access
for Official Agency Historians."
The usual caveats apply concerning CIA review before any
declassification, downgrading or unclassified publication of
material from CIA-originated documents. I shall enclose a
copy of the "CIA Access Policy" for your information.
I am sending a copy of this letter to Dr. Benedict K.
Zobrist, Director, Harry S. Truman Library, and to Dr. James E.
O'Neill, Assistant Archivist for Presidential Libraries, National
Archives and Records Service.
