Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2010/06/16: CIA-RDPO1-00569R000100100067-8 ADMINISTRATIVE - INTERNAL USE WY 12 October 1984 Executive Secretary History Staff Bi-Weekly Ken spoke last week to a naval strategy seminar at the National War College on Alfred Thayer Mahan. He is currently attending the Air Force Academy's three-day biennial military history symposium in Colorado Springs. Don has an appointment this morning with DDCI McMahon to discuss his history of overhead reconnaissance. McMahon, who played a leading role in this activity, was given a copy of Don's 60-page summary chapter to review. Don also is in correspondence with Dr. James Killian with regard to fixing a time for an interview. Our advertisements in the AHA newsletter and in the Chronicle of Higher Education have produced over 50 applications for our Staff is orian position. The closing date for applications is 15 October. A considerable amount of History Staff time has gone into processing and reviewing these applications. Section 3 of the new CIA Information Act requires the DCI, in consultation with the Archivist of the United States, the Librarian of Congress, and "appropriate representatives of the historical discipline selected by the Archivist," to submit a report to Congress by 1 June 1985 on "the feasibility of conducting systematic review for declassification and release of CIA information of historical value." Ken met with Alan Thompson, the Archivist's action officer on this, to discuss formation of the committee. IAD, who is working on examples of "Excellence," called for a history of th the Congo; supplied him with the name, number, and location of the history in which this operation is covered.
