SUBJECT : Review and Release of CIA Documents to Dr. Ronald
Landa, Department of State Historian
1. Dr. Ronald Landa, an official historian with the Department of
State, has asked that he be permitted to use the following CIA-originated
documents from the Johnson Library in preparing a Vietnam War volume in
the official documentary series, Foreign Relations of the United States:
TOP SECRET HS/LBJ/242, 27 Jul 64
SECRET HS/LBJ/315, 27 Apr 65
TOP SECRET HS/LBJ/364, 11 Jun 65
I would be grateful if you would review these documents and decide whether
they can be released (at their present classifications, unless you wish to
sanitize or downgrade them) to the Department of State for Dr. Landa's use.
2. Dr. Landa and the Department of State have agreed to the attached
"CIA Records Access Policy," which requires further CIA review before any
of the classified material you may now release to them can be
declassified, downgraded, or published.
3. I would be grateful if you would return these documents with your
determination to the DCI History Staff, Room 316 Ames.
