SUBJECT . Review and Release of CIA Documents to Dr. Ronald Landa,
Department of State Historian
1. Dr. Ronald Landa and his team of official historians from the
Department of State, have asked permission to use CIA-originated documents
from the Johnson Library (list attached) in preparing a Vietnam War volume
in the official documentary series Foreign Relations of the United States.
I would be grateful if you would review these documents and decide w et er
they can be released (at their present classifications, unless you wish to
sanitize or downgrade them) to the Department of State for Dr. Landa's use.
2. Dr. Landa and the Department of State have agreed to the attached
"CIA Records Access Policy," which requires further CIA review before any
of the classified material you may now release to them can be
declassified, downgraded, or published.
3. I would be grateful if you would return this document with your
determination to the DCI History Staff, Room 316 Ames.
