Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2009/11/19: CIA-RDPO1-00569R000100120065-8 W SECRET W 11 January 1985 MEMORANDUM FOR: FROM: SUBJECT: Special Assistant, Director, D&E Staff Historian, DCI/History Staff Updated Overhead History Chapters 1. As I promised on Monday, 7 January, I am sending you more re- cent iterations of two chapters of the Overhead History, the Summary, and Chapter VII, CORONA and the National Reconnaissance Office. I would be delighted to have Dr. Wheelon read these chapters, articu- larly those on the NRO 2. Dr. Wheelon should keep in mind that this history makes no pretense at being exhaustive. -I have made a conscious effort to limit each project to approximately 50 pages in order to keep the narrative short enough that a busy executive could read a chapter in less than an hour and come away with a good grasp of the issues that gave rise to each system as well as the efforts required to bring it into opera- tion. 3. Please stress to Dr. Wheelon that he can and is encouraged to make any marks or comments he sees fit on these copies of the manu- scripts. If he has the time and/or inclination, I should like to in- terview him in order to obtain his views on some of the more conten- tious issues during his stewardship. 4. After 18 January I can be reached on Thanks again for your help, Distribution: Orig - Addressee w/att HS Chrono wo/att SECRET Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2009/11/19: CIA-RDPO1-00569R000100120065-8
