Foreign demand in fact accounted for over half of the
increase in GNP in the first year of the recovery, which began in
the first quarter of calendar year 1983. Net exports have
continued to provide a substantial pro ortion of t '
growth during the first half of 1984.
Private investment spending has been strong, however, and has
accounted for nearly as much of GNP growth as the.much larger
consumption sector.
