Highlights Under Secretary of State William Schneider asked TTIC and CO,MEX to assess for the SIG/TT the technology transfer implications of the proposed research program for the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA). State requested information on the diversion of controlled equipment through Cyprus to the USSR. A short deadline study, prepared by CIA/TTAC, was forwarded to State for use in discussions with the West Germans on Cyprus. ? Members of the TTIC Silicon Working Group prepared a report on Warsaw Pact silicon production capability to assist US negotiators in defining what production equipment and materials should be controlled by COCOM and not exported to Warsaw Pact countries. ? State/INR initiated two biweekly newsletters - S&T Review and Arms Transfer - which include technology transfer related items. The publications are designed to alert policy levels about export control issues ? TTIC/COMEX arranged and participated in a panel discussion for the Security Subcommittee of the NSC-chaired Interagency Group on the President's Geneva Exchanges Initiatives (IG/GEI) to discuss the visa process and the monitoring of foreign students in the US.
