You will recall my letter of last March 31 in which I invited you to address
AIA's annual spring conference in Williamsburg, Virginia in mid-May. Unfortunately
you were unable to accept our invitation.
I would now like to invite you to address our fall meeting which will be held
in Phoenix, Arizona on November 17-19, 1977. We can make available almost any
hour that would be convenient for you during those three days.
As I said in my March 31 letter, we believe this conference can provide you a
unique opportunity to acquaint the chief executives of the aerospace industry with
the Carter Administration's outlook on key international issues. This subject,
especially foreign policy as it relates to defense activities of our and other
nations, is especially significant to the leaders of the firms which set the pace
for weapons technology development. The attendees at the meeting will be the
chief executive officers of the 47 companies who are at a forefront of weapon,
space, and related high technology.
A list of the individuals who attended our spring meeting is attached to give
you a feel for the type of audience you could expect in Phoenix.
In past years this Association has been honored by appearances at its annual,
spring conference by individuals such as one of your predecessors, Alan Dulles,
numerous. Cabinet officers, and two Vice Presidents of the United States. We hope
that it will be possible for you to break away from your busy tasks to join us in
Phoenix. Should that not be possible, I can assure you that we will ask you again
for our spring meeting in Williamsburg, Virginia, to be held May 24-26, 1978.
