Thanks for your thoughtful letter with the
very interesting commentary. I meet twice a
week with the President, mostly on intelligence
matters. If the subject of human rights does
come up, I will certainly pass on your thoughts.
Thanks too for your kind words on the
Foreign Affairs article. I hope that it will
lend perspective. to some knotty problems even
though I may not influence their resolution.
And I would hope that the perspective is
"consensus" rather than "compromise," but you
may be correct in your perception.
