Please conduct a study to determine whether the President's and the Secretary of Defense's posture statements (and any others) do not already contain much of*the information that would go into Approved For Release 2009/07/21: CIA-RDP05T00644R000601780001-2 Approved For Release 2009/07/21: CIA-RDP05T00644R000601780001-2 k an intelligence posture statement; to assess whether'the infor- mation that could be compiled and published in an unclassified statement would add substantially to the purpose of public debate on major national issues; to assess whether a series of "white papers" on specific issues of national interest might be a preferrable way of disseminating classified and unclassified intelligence to the appropriate audiences; and to consider, if possible, overlap for duplication with existing publications such as the DIP. 3. The Deputy to the DCI for the Intelligence Community is requested to chair a committee with the other addressees participating in order to conduct this study.
