SUBJECT Capabilities of Cuban Fighter Aircraft
to Carry Nuclear Weapoas
1. The Cubaa Air Force is curreatly equipped with
about 78 all-weather MiG-21 fighters, 28 clear-air-mass
MiG-21 fighters and eight MiG-21 reconnaissance aircraft.
They have recently received 12 MiG-23 aircraft of which
two .have been identified as multipurpose, two as ground
attack and one trainer variant. The other sevea remain
2. All of the MiG-21 variants above have the inherent
capability to carry a nuclear weapon weighing up to one-half
metric ton on each of the two inboard wing pylons aad three-
fourths of a metric ton on a special fuselage centerline pylon
(replacing external fuel tank).
3. All of the MiG-23 variants have the capability to
carry a nuclear weapon weighing up to one metric ton oa
each of two wing-glove pylons, and at least half a metric.
