Subject: Activities of Mixed Commission for Demarcation
of Argentine-Bolivian-Paraguayan Frontier
With reference to this Embassy's previous despatches regarding
the demarcation of Paraguay's boundaries, particularly to those re-
garding .its Argentine boundary, nos. 853 of June 11, 1945 and 1211 of
October 22, 1945, (subjects: "Reporting signature of Argentine-
Paraguyan Boundary Treaty" and "Transmitting Paraguayan instrument of
ratification of Complementary Treaty of Definite Boundaries on the River
Pilcomayo between Paraguay and Argentina"), I have the honor to state
that the press reports, in a United Press despatch of November 6, the
arrival in La Paz, Bolivia, of the Argentine and Paraguayan Commissions
for the demarcation of the common frontier of Argentina, Bolivia and
Paraguay. ?
The independent Asuncion daily, La Tribuna,'of November 7 devoted
a headline on the front page to this news, but, as the Department is
aware, this mixed commission is merely continuing the work of boundary
demarcation on which it has been engaged since 1938. The Paraguayan
members of the Commission are Captain Ram6n Diaz Benza, Major Atilio M4ndez
and Engineer Alberoni Vegas; the Argentine members are General Baldomero
Biedma and SeHores Osvaldo Bianchi and Andres Lescurre.
