1. On the night of 16/17 July "the Western forces",
after the delivery of atomic strikes, crossed the state
frontier on a front Dargun, Malchin, Rechlin, Neustadt,
Rathenow and by 3.30 had advanced in different directions
up to 8-10 kas.
2. "The Eastern forces", having received information
in the beginning of July about the preparation of
the Western forces" for military action, began to
deploy their troops with the objects of repelling the
enemy strike and of subsequently destroying their
forces, in rgadiness to go over to the offensive by the
end of 19 July (k iskhody 19.7). On the night of
16/17 July "the Eastern forces" delivered a counter-
strike with aircraft and artillery by which the force
of the "Western" initial strike was significantly
weakened. Border units and covering troops are fighting
stubborn battles with superior enemy forces.

1. The- let Independent Engineer Battalion has come
under the command of the 2nd Western Front and after
unloading at "Iozy" Railway Station by 3.30 on
17 July has concentrated in the woods east of Dobrzany.
The battalion is provided with personnel and equipment
in accordance with what is available, and has four
8461 missiles with nose cones (golovnaya chast') and
two 8111 misiiles. The missiles have not been checked
and are not fueled with special fuel.

By order of the commander of troops of the 2nd
Western Front, the battalion is attached to the
3rd Army.
At 3.30 on 17 July a senior officer of Artillery
Headquarters, 3rd Army, arrived at the headquarters of
the lit Battalion, and gave the battalion coamauder
the following information on the situation and task:
1) On the night of 16/17 July the enemy commenced
military operations and at 3.00 on 17 July,
overcoming the resistance of covering units
advanced in an easterly direction for 10 km;.
From the beginning of military operations the
enemy has been using atomic weapons and combat
radioactive substances (boyevoye radioaktivnoye
veshchestvo).
2) The 3rd Army troops have the task of halting
the advance of"the Western forces", of inflict-
ing defeat on the enemy striking group, of going
over to the offensive without delay, of carrying
the military operations over to the territory
of "the Western forces", and of completing
their destruction there. The line of deploy-
ment of the main forces of the army for going
over to the offensive is Jarmen, Niubrandonburg,
Oranienburg.
3) The tasks of the battalion:
- to cover the deployment of the troops of the
army for the offensive, to be ready with one
battery from temporary positions, to destroy
the means of atomic attack and other important
enemy objectives:
-to prepare for the disruption of the operation
of the Schwerin Railway Station (Target No.48),
the port of Hamburg (Target No .49), and the
Belson Railway Station (Target No.55).
Time to be ready for opening fire - 16.00 on 18 July.

2. Part of the let Section of the 8th Geodetic
Detachment (three instruments) is being attached to
the battalion by the end of 19 July. The group
commander with personnel and instruments will be at
the disposal of the let Battalion by 4.30 on 17 July.
The preparation of the special charges and assembly
of the nose cones of 8111 missiles for the battalion
devolves on the Mobile Repair-Technical Base (PRTB).
3. For carrying out the tasks during the course of
the operation, ten 8111 missiles and sixty 8A61 missiles
are issued to the battalion from the morning of
18 July to 23 July, and also special fuel for 76
missiles. Times of arrival (postupleniye) of the
special warheads at the Mobile *.pair-Technical Base:
8.00 17 July - two charges of 30 kt
19.00 17 July - two charges of 60 kt and
one charge of 40 kt
6.00 18 July - one charge of 100 kt and
one charge of 200 kt
5.00 19 July - one charge of 80 kt
14.00 20 July - one charge of 150 kt
21.00 21 July - one charge of 100 kt
4. The siting area (pozitsionnyy rayon) of the
battalion - (environs) (ink) Schoonhausen, (env.)
Torgelow, (env.) Plusewalk.
5. During the course of the offensive it is planned
for the battalion to move twice: first move to the
area ( say) Pritswalk, Garz, (env.) Blumenthal
ready to fire from this area with the movement of
troops to the line Ludwigs lust, Bismarck, and the
secoad move to the area (env.) Melbeck,
Bovensen ready to fire with the movement of troops

increasing the depth of destruction of enemy objectives
with 8K11 missiles and for assuring continuity of
support of the troops of the army provicion is to
be made for the move of one launch (startovaya)
battery with two 8E11 missiles to the areas southeast
of Strelitz (ready to deliver fire at the time of
the movement of troops to the line Teterow, Wittstock,
Rhinol) and northwest of Lenzen; ready for delivering
fire at the time of the movement of troops to the
line Luebeck, Boizenburg, Wittingen.
Route of movement - Strasburg, Strelitz,
Wittstock, Dannenwalde.
6. The rupply of the battalion with special armament
to organized in the initial position from Stobno
Station (8 kms southwest of Szczecin) during the
course of the offensive - from Buschhof Station
(10 kms southwest of Sirow) and from Carwitz Station
(5 kms West of Dannenberg). Supplying with special
1111 fuel in the initial position - from Dobra Station
(13 kns northwest of Szczecin) during the course of
the offensive - from the special fuel section (00G)
dumps in the area of Wallitz (6 kms south of Zechlin
and Sallahn (10 kmo south of Dannenberg). The plan
for bringing up trznsport and the times for receiving
Special armament and special fuel will be communicated
to the battalion by the end of 17 July (k iskhodu 17.7).
7. Antiaircraft artillery and fighter aircraft cover
for the battalion in the concentration area, on the
march, and in siting are is provided in accordance
with the plan of PVO of the troops of the army.

9. The command post of the 3rd Army from 4.00
17 July is on Hill 102 (12 kms south of Menz).
III
1. The PETS is deployed in the woods 5 kms southwest
of Torgelow and is ready for checking and assembly of
special charges and nose cones for the 8E11 missiles.
2. A catalogue of points of the state geodetic
network in the siting areas allotted to the battalion,
is sent to the battalion headquarters with the group
commander of the let Section of the 8th Geodetic
Detachment.
To be carried out: The commander of the let
battalion is to prepare an order by 5.00 for the
deployment of the battalion and for preparing to
carry out the combat task.

equipment allotted to the command of the directing
staff, and others).
The directing staff working out the exercise
must have attached to the plan examples and the
complete contents of all combat and introductory
docunents handed to participants in the exercise,
with an indication of the nature of actions of enemy
and friendly troops, designation, extent, and nature
of operations for the neutralizatton of objectives,
and also the procedure for determining the effects
of the fire of the unit (large unit).
The contents of the introductory documents-and
the possible solutions in our vergenn are given
briefly, in order to show their main substance or
the concept of the solution. Only the list of .
umpires and organizational instructions is taken
out from the attachments.

2. Organizational Instructions for 50x1-HUM
Carrying out the Exercise
The battalion exercise is to begin with plac4ng
the battalion on the alert. The tactical task is to
be delivered to the battalion commander in the assembly
area at 3.30 on 17 July.
The battalion commander's decision and order are
to be heard at 5.00 on 17 July.
Approximate (oriyentirovochnyy) time of departure
of the reconnoitering (rokognostsirovochnyy) group is
6.00 - 6.30 on 17 July. The time of departure of the
battalion from the concentration area for occupying
the siting area is 20.30 on 17 July.
An excerpt from the plan for bringing up the
echelons and data on the time of issue of special
fuel are to be handed to the battalion commander at
20.00 on 17 July. The tasks of the battalion for the
artillery preparation of the offensive, in the form
of battle orders of the artillery headquarters of the
3rd Army, attaching the launch table (grafik puska)
are to be communicated at 19.30 onr16 July.
The remaining tasks to be communicated: unscheduled
by radio in code, scheduled - by army artillery staff
officer.
Battalion actions to be carried out in the three
siting areas: northwest of Pasewalk, southeast of
Strelitz, south of Pritzwalk.
Operational time from 17 July to 12.00 on 21 July..
From 12.00 on 21 July to 15.00 on 22 July exeicisio
problems are to be worked out from the last occupied 5 OX1-HUM
position, without moving the battalion.
