Development The Director, Arms Control and Disarmament Agency The Director, United States Information Agency The Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff The Director of Central Intelligence The Administrator, Energy Research and Development Administration SUBJECT: Disposition of National Security Action Memoranda and National Security Decision Memoranda After review of the National Security Action Memoranda issued from 1961 through 1968, and of the National Security Decision Memoranda issued from 1969 through January 1977, the President has directed that: the following disposition be made: 1. The National Security Action Memoranda (NSAM)andthe National Security Decision Memoranda (NSDM.) listed at Tab A will remain in force until further notice. The National Security Action Memoranda (NSAM) and the National Security Decision Memoranda (NSDM) listed at Tab B will remain in force, pending the completion of the PRM/NSC process. 3. The National Security Action Memoranda (NSAM) and the National Security Decision Memoranda (NSDM) listed"at Tab C are hereby rescinded. 4. Each NSAM and NSDM listed at Tab D should be reviewed by a`n ad hoc group, including the initial addressees of each memorandum concerned to recommend (a) whether it remains active and should be confirmed as written; (b) whether it can now be considered inactive because it has been overtaken by events and should be rescinded, or (c) whether it should be updated and consolidated with other guidance and re-issued. These recommendations arm a?P by Tune 30. 5. All other NSAMs and NSDMs will be considered rescinded as of this date.
