SUBJECT: Telephone Conversations with Representative Ike
Skelton on 7 and 8 October 1986
Representative Ike Skelton called on 7 October to ask
whether there was any truth to the story that the aircraft shot
down in Nicaragua was a CIA aircraft. I said there was no truth
to the story. We had no connection to the aircraft or its crew,
despite the fact that the wife of Eugene Hasenfus had called the
State Department alleging that her husband was a CIA employee.
He is not.
On 8 October I called Representative Skelton to correct the
record in that we now knew that Hasenfus had been an Air America
employee years ago. However, we had had no contact since Air
America was disbanded.
