13.1 LIAISON Talked several times STAT
with Bill Miller, Staff Director, Senate Select Committee on Intelligence,
and Stan Taylor, also of the Select Committee, regarding our concerns
over the Committee's action in tentatively accepting Senator Gary
Hart's (D., Colo.) changes in the draft statement on I STAT
advised them of Mr. Knoche's conversations last night with Chairman
Daniel Inouye (D., Hawaii) and his effort to reach Senator Barry
Goldwater (R., Ariz.) on this subject. I mentioned to Miller, Chairman
Inouye's suggestion that we also contact Senators Jake Garn (R., Utah)
and Richard Ind.) and any, other xnernbers we wished, to?
asser our concern over the statement. Miller met with the Chairman
during the course of the morning and advised me that Senator Hart and
the Chairman plan to get together to discuss this matter. I also advised
that Mr. Knoche had talked with Senator Hart on this subject last night
and Senator Hart felt that he and the Chairman could work the matter
out, therefore, it would be unnecessary for us to make direct contact
with individual members, at least at this time
