On this date, met withMr. William Fee, Chief, STAT Division of Operating Facilities, Department of State, and Mr. Raleigh Christy, Special Assistant to Mr. Fee, to discuss the proposed transfer of the GPO State Service printing plant to the Agency. STAT stated that negotiations were being conducted with the Public Printer and with the Joint Committee on Printing looking toward the transfer of the GPO State Service plant to the Agency so that all of the Agency's printing facilities can be consolidated in the new headquarters building at Langley, Virginia. It was explained that the Public Printer had agreed to this transfer, and was cooperating to the fullest extent in assuring that the transfer be made as quickly and as easily as possible. It was also mentioned that the staff of the Joint Committee on Printing was being kept advised of the status of these negotiations. STAT ekplained that the Agency desired to have concurrence of the GPO State Service plant's customer agencies prior to formally persenting the proposal to the Joint Committee on Printing, and to this end the Agency assured the customer agencies that their classified printing needs would be taken care of the same as before the transfer. 2. Mr. Fee and Mr. Christy stated that they could see no objection to this transfer, and that they were certain that the Department of State would agree to it. They also expressed the opinion that the Department could obtain whatever classified printing they required from the Agency as proposed, or from the main Government Printing Office. It was decided that a letter should be sent to the Assistant Secretary - Controller of the Department of State mentioning this discussion, and request the Department's concurrence to the transfer.
