1. Of 173 million impressions, 78 million were FBIS reports. While repre-
senting 45 percent of workload, represents only ten positions or 3 1/2
percent of workforce.
2. NIS account for 8 million impressions (4 1/2 percent) but represents 32
percent of resources and production.
3. Goal is by FY 1974 to be converted to cold type composition. Hope to use
bank of three Photon Model 713 machines and auxiliary equipment to pro-
duce FBIS daily reports. Such an arrangement would allow double the
current production with the same workforce.
4. One Photon Model 713 on order. Currently have one Photon Model 513.
5. A very small portion of work is "farmed out." Some standard, un-
classified forms to GPO and some color photographing to a commercial
firm.
6. Most: essential job is producing NIS, a "high quality, diversified product
requiring fine line half tone printing, exacting multi-color map printing,
extensive use of statistical tables and graphic book printing."
7. Book value of PSD equipment is $2.5 million. We endeavor to budget for
replacement for 10 percent of inventory per year.
8. On an average, we use about 8,000 hours of overtime each year.
