BERNARD B. LYNN NAMED DIRECTOR 0'F 'DEFENSE CO'NTRA'CT AUDIT AGENCY
Secretary of Defense Melvin R. Laird today announced
the appointment of Bernard B. Lynn as Director of the Defense
Contract Audit Agency. The appointment was effective November
12, 1972.
A career public servant, Mr. Lynn had been acting
director of the agency since August, 1972, when the former
director, William B. Petty, retired. ,
Mr. Lynn began service as a military member of the
Army Air Corps Audit Agency in 1942, and converted to civilian
status in the agency in 1946. He advanced to positions of in-
creasing responsibility in the agency until he was Assistant
Chief when his function was merged into the newly formed Defense
Contract Audit Agency in 1965. At that time, Mr. Lynn was
appointed Deputy for Audit Management in the new Defense agency.
In August of 1966, he was advanced to the position of Deputy
Director of the agency, and he became Acting Director in August,
1972.
Mr. Lynn has a,Bachelor of Science degree from Temple
University and a Master's degree in Business Administration
from New York University. He holds a CPA (Certified Public
Accountant) certificate from the state of New York. He is active
in professional audit associations and has been a key staff
member of the government-wide Cost Accounting Standards Board.
Mr. Lynn is marrie to the former Ruth Wolfe of Phila-
delphia, Pennsylvania. Th r son, Dr. Steuart R., is a professor
of economics at the Univer _. y of Indiana. Their daughter,
Elaine D., is a candidate for a Ph. D degree.in Political
Science at the University of Chicago.
Mr. and Mrs. Lynn
reside in Arlington, Virginia.
