Drivers (IDEA-0589)
I have discussed your recommendation with Mr. Bissell, and
he has agreed to continue for the present with use of the U-2 drivers
presently in the program. However, to ensure ourselves that we
have not overlooked security aspects that may not be readily known
at this Headquarters, actions along the lines we discussed would be
most appropriate. These include a comparison of current knowledge
of the drivers concerning sensitive information vs. what was assumed
known by Gary Powers, and to what extent the current knowledge of
sensitive information is generally known throughout the unit. I
should appreciate a progress report on this within the next three
weeks since Mr. McCone will undoubtedly discuss this matter with
Mr. Bissell.
