Approved For Released 2001/08/15 : CIA-RDP33-02415A000100390066-5 DD/P Note accompanying CHAT.-0607 to DD/P I feel that a knowledge of over-all requirements in the FE would be valuable here. has the necessary stature and experience to bring back useful info on (a) who specifically determines needs ? Are these political as well as military? (b) Opinion of people and of 5th AF on processing of flight plans here. Jim would visit PACAF on the way home to see if they are satisfied with present operation. In view of current opns in FE. I believe the trip should be delayed until 15 May. Reference your request that Kelly Johnson be given alternatives to contact during absence. this has been taken care of and all concerned notified. 2. Kelly will be in Washington 7' and 8 April. He would like to see you or Gene the morning of 8 April. 3. Kelly asked for the go-ahead to cut metal on the 2nd. aircraft. along the lines discussed with Gene. (Carefully removing pieces. so they could be put back on the aircraft.) He had already waited 10 days. I told him you were going to the Director with the program soon, and told him to go ahead on the 2nd aircraft per above. 4. (P&W) said on 31 March that the J-75 is ready for simulated high altitude run. Also that his slip-rule people are looking into a fuel with lighter specific weights. This could have effect of retaining present range with J-75. Approved For Release 2001IIPt fl 3-02415A000100390066-5
