This was the name given to the extensive studies we have conducted over the past two years in an effort to develop an effective radar camouft4 for the U?a aircraft and other conventional aircraft. As explained in the memorandum on financing. most of the coots of 5X1 A2g have been incurred in preceding fiscal years when this was carried an as a subproject under AQUATONE and financed out of AQUATONE funds. These costs included: 25X1 C4c Sizable contracts with _ 25X1A5a1 25X1A5a1 nr the roduction of 25X1A5a1 camouflage; p 25X1A1a 25X1 A5a 1 Costs in excess of with incurred under contracts for the application and removal of camouflage and for the measurement of radar reflectivity, The construction and installation of highly sophisticated test 25X1A6a facilities at Air Force Base and their operation 25X1A5a1 by the firm of under contract with ua. 25X1A2g we have now abandoned efforts to develop an effective camouflage, the only costs remaining to be incurred under this project in FY-19S9 are those of removing the covering from the two aircraft on which it . WO also expect to incur modest additional costs to permit the 25X1 C4c re write up in useful form the results of two 25X1 A2g 4. This project, which is nearly a year old, consists of feasibility stakes looking toward as. successor aircraft to the U-2. The 2255XX CC major expenses that have been incurred have been the costs of work erforused 2501 A5 al by the and the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation. oc eee s conducted an exten- sive program involving at least preliminary design of no teeass than 30 to 40 configurations Of aircraft. It has also carried out an extensive program of 25X1 C4c acxdet building and of measuring radar reflectivity of models. Lockheed also built a partial full-skate mock-up of a possible ~aircraaaft. ~ 25X1A2g 25X1A5a1 and costs have been for model testing and for extensive radar measurements on the above mentioned mockup. Addtttonatty, some funds 25X1A5a1 have been spent (under subcontract to Lockheed) for studies by Incorporated of the feasibility of certain types of plastic structures. Lastly.
