More adequate housing
and better recreational fac-
I ilities were pin-pointed as
the major problems facing
the military in Southern
Nevada, according to the un
animou; opinion of the com
man4lers, of all military in-
stallations in the area.
Holding its quarterly meet-
ing in Henderson, the Execu-
tive Committee of the South-'
ern Nevada Armed Forces
Community Council, with 23
military-civilian leaders in
attendance, heard N e i l i s
Commander, Brig. Gen. John
N. Ewbank, outline the two
most serious problems con-
fronting the military locally,
and request full cooperation
and assistance of the, civil
authorities for solution as
soon as possible. Lake Mead
comman er, Cap t. ap ae
Semmes Jr., (USN) and Maj.
Porter W. Wassum Jr., Com-
thander of Indian Springs
Air Force Base, voiced their
complete , agreement with
ben., Ewbank's analysis.
According to Gen. Ew-
bank, Nellis expects a large
increase in military families
with the adoption of the
F-105 Thunderchief into the
Nellis inventory of aircraft.
Appoximately . 800 airmen
and their families are to be
assigned to the base with the
first increase in personnel ex-
pected within two months.
The Nellis commander said
"in the past there has been
some difficulty in identify-
ing civilian rentals for mili-
tay families. I want to say
here and now that should
better low cost housing be
made availaple to our young
married service men, we at
Nellis will make sure that
proper care is taken to pro-
tect the property owner."
Several suggestions were
submitted by civic and poli-
tical leaders, and the prob-
ems, g -
;esticns for their solution,
were referred to a commit-
tee for further study and ac-
tion by Bruce Trent, execu-
tive chairman of the coun-
A final action of the com-I
mittee changed the name of
the organization to that of
Civilian-Military Council of
Southern Nevada.
