MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD
SUBJECT: DDS&T Historical Program Status as of 1 July 1968
Office of Special Projects:
Completed and submitted. Consists of a 69-page basic document,
in five parts, which covers the period from the establishment of OSP
in September 1965 through December 1967. (Where necessary for
continuity the document traces developments from as far back as 1954. )
No monographs.
Office of Research and Development:
Completed and submitted. Consists of a 141-page basic document,
which includes appropriate appendices, tables, and attachments. In
addition, there are 29 monographs approximating 300 to 400 pages
detailing projects with which the Office has been concerned. The period
covered is from roughly 1960 through mid-1968.
Completed. Not yet Office-approved or submitted. Consists of
a basic document of 64 pages, plus 17 appendices. In addition, nine
monographs covering specific projects and problems are included.
Coverage is from establishment of the Office in 1962 (backdating where
necessary) through mid-1968. Estimated submission date is mid-July
(1968).
Office of Special Activity:
Not fully completed.

OSA's estimated completion date for a final copy is mid-September
(1968).
Office of Scientific Intelligence:
Not fully completed; however, preparation is in final stages.
The basic document of some 50 pages has been drafted and is now
being reviewed by D/OSI prior to final typing.
In addition, there are nine annexes "which have been completed or
are in an advance stage of drafting." says that he expects
to have all of these in useable, if not final, condition by the end of July.
Foreign Missile and Space Analysis Center:
Not completed.
A first draft of the basic history up to May 1966 has been prepared.
Rough notes and ideas from that point forward have been sketched out
and need filling in.

The principal Annex -- the History of the Guided Missile and
Astronautics Intelligence Committee -- has been prepared and requires
only review.
An approximate date for completion of this report is the end of
August.
Office of Computer Services:
Not completed.
This project, which is estimated to be 75 percent complete, will
consist of a basic document of roughly 55 pages, including annexes
and charts, and approximately nine monographs which will total about
200 pages.
Estimated date of completion for this effort is the end of August.
Summary
In the overall it would appear that the DDS&T History Project is
somewhere between 85 and 95 percent complete. There is still a
considerable amount of work to be done, however, it is largely
mechanical and involves a minimum amount of additional research.
