Arrangements have been made to include) ~ ORR in.;`a course conducted by the Standard Oil Compafiy, California for members of the Armed Forces on the subject of Petroleum Production and Distribu- tion. The course is intended for experienced petroleum officers as a refresher course and an introduction into current methods. A similar course is conducted by the U.S. Navy Bureau of Supplies and Accounts at Norfolk, Virginia for which a candidate has been nominated* 2. Colonel Gilliam, Chief, Petroleum Branch, Office of the Quarter- master General has advised us that7a thorough survey course in Petroleum Production and Handling is conducted by the Quartermaster Generalts Office in Jersey City. The course lasts 11 weeks and is especially designed for officers newly assigned to duties requiring a knowledge of oil supply. Colonel Gilliam also has paved the way for obtaining7iermission for CIA representatives to attend the one week course in preventive maintenance conducted at frequent intervals at the Aberdeen Proving Ground by the. Chief of Ordnance. 3. Within the past week the Programs Division has briefed the three CIA representatives who are scheduled to attend the National War College course commencing August 20, The CIA representative to the Armed Forces Staff College course commencing August 25 and the CIA representative to. attend the Industrial War College course commencing 20 August have been briefed and will report on scheduled date. L. An Announcement to the Training Liaison Officer announcing available language training for the fall has been drafted and probably will be distributed sometime during next week. 5. A combined total of 112 students are presently enrolled in introductory and self-study courses in the Language Training Branch. Seventeen of these people are in classes and 95 are in s elf-study courses. 6.
