SUBJ CT a Request for Broadcast Station Information
1. In regard to the r t laid on 081 for information
about navigation facilities, indicated that 00 is probably
in the better positicc to fulfill. Present Information indicates the
most important navigational aid will be radio broadcasting stations.
The necessary information needed about the stations is their froqueneq-
and geographical location. A doo cent produced by Ff13 titled,
"Broadcasting Stations of the World" lists such stations by frequency
and city. If inf.i tion is available, it is requested that the geo-
graphical location of the broadcasting stations be listed rather than
just its city location and also list the two letter "background" code
group that is periodically transmitted on certain stations. Concern-
ing these code groups, there are conflicting reports as to their
purpose, on which stations they operate, and the time intervals
between their emissions. More positive information an these coded
signals would be deal .
2. Information that would be helpful but not absolutely neces-
oary is the hours of operation of the broadcasting stations and the
date of the Information about each station. It mast be apparent that
a such smaller degree of reliabilitl-van be ass mod by the Project if
the latest date of information about certain stations is several years
previous. I believe I have eocploited all of the sources of information
that might be concerned with collecting data on air navigation aids
(less broadcasting xtatioas). I intend to proceed no further it this
collection attempt unless your discussion with Dr. Quthe brings to
light an o~ited source.
