1, On 26 August 1949, e-t a meeting with the Services officer and
tbers of the Reproduction Staff it was decided that photostating the
five theses in hand would be much to expensive. A number of alternates
syttow weret considered such as retyping, microfilming, printing, photo
offsetting. The latter system was determined to be least expensive when
more than nine or ten copies Is desired. Typing on fanfold would probably
be the most inexpensive for ton copies or less.
QCD is of the opinion that five copies of this type of 'unguided
thesis would probably be sufficient, however, since Mr. of the 25X1A9a
Plans and Policy staff had checked with members of O and OIR# Department
of tate# previous to OCD conaidera.tion of the reproduction of those Items,
it did not seem feasible to reproduce such a small quantity on these par-
ticular reports, It was jointly determined by fir. and this Office 25X1A9a
that lve copies plus two copies for the author in each of theme five
cases would be the most satisfactory number.
3. A follow -u check made by the Services Officer has bought forth
a best estimate of 3,5OO to reproduce these five theses in the quantity
d. Because of the cost of this job, this Office would like to request
a reconsideration by the most appropria?te branch concerned in the case of
each thesis. Each thesis will be reproduced and disseminated if requested
and justified individually in writing by ORE# providing funds are available.
(The original copies must be returned to the aa.ut lore in the very near
future.)
