Each year a large appropriation (-l,,O00,000) was
made for "extraordinary requirements". About a
year or so later, particulars are given as to how
this was spent, except that it was always reported
that a certain sum was spent "to direct order of
the employer". These are the Secret service ex-
penditures in 1910 that amounted to r38O,000; in
1909, fi279,O00; in 1908, fi287,000. Also, the budget
included a large item for "Miscellaneous Police
Expenditures" Iof which,expenditures a portion is
not subject to publication. From 1912, this
amounted to I335,O0O.
