1. has been summoned for
Jury Duty at the US District Court for the District of Columbia
Criminal Court No. 1. He is to appear before that court at 9:45
a.m. 5 December 1950 to serve on a jury panel of indefinite duration.

2. It is necessary that be excused from this tour
of jury duty. He is the Administrative Officer of this division and at
this time is acting for the Chief of Information Control for this division
who is away from the office on extended sick leave. The situation is further
complicated by the shortage of clerical personnel and vacancies which cannot
be filled at this time. This shortage consists of approximately 50% of
our clerical personnel. There is no person trained to assume
administrative duties and no person available to take over direction of
the information control functions.
3. This office requests that the court be pertitioned to excuse
from jury duty until such time as this acute personnel
shortage will allow a relaxation of attention to the responsibilities
which are his particular duties.
