Laurence R. Houston, Esq.,
General Counsel
Central Intelligence Agency
Washington 25, D. C.
Dear Larry:
Quite by accident, and in a way that will become immediately
apparent, I have learned of your present location, and, poli-
tician that I am, I am immediately asking your attention to
a matter in a way that will be beneficial to your organization
as well as gratifying to me.
A good friend of mine, has informed me that
his application for emp oymen Mas orney at present reposes
on the desk of "Mr. Lawrence R. Houston, Counsel for the C.I.A."
The name, of course, rang a bell, and inquiry confirmed by first
conclusion. Congratulations on your success in such interesting
work!
From 1 August 1947 thru 30 November 1947, while on'Tempora.ry
25X1A Duty from the Office of Counsel, Nurnburg, I had daily
business contact with who is Attorney in the Nurnburg
Division of the War Crimes Branch at Washington. I found him
most cooperative and very interested in the work. He was occu-
pied in accomplishing what was almost the impossible, securing
in Washington, statements and documents, to meet the changing
and urgent needs of cases in progress in Nurnburg. His work
called for diplomacy, adaptability, patience and discretion
(since much information of a highly confidential nature and
involving policy came across his desk). To my own knowledge
he was very good at the work. Im sure that you would find
his services as helpful as did I.
Just a brief word of myself. Just before Christmas 1945 I
returned from the Pacific and hopefully if not eagerly returned
to W. & C. Things were most disorganized there and the prospects
for me not very encouraging. As a result I jumped at the chance
to go to Nurnburg in April 1946. I spent an interesting 16 months
there and worked 4 more at War Crimes in Washington. Currently
Im trying to put a bit of momentum into this legal "push cart" or,
if you will)"cubby hole". However, Im happy and hopeful. And,
at long last, expecting to marry in April, and am one of the few
people with an apartment to move into.
Drop me a line, at leisure Larry, and give my best regards to
your wife.
