1.I (discussed with us further
plans for the training program requested by OCR. The Reading
Improvement Branch will conduct 10 hours of training in scanning
techniques. The reading training will run for 5 days, 2 hours per day,
and the first group of section chiefs will take the course during the
week 13 - 17 August. For your information, a copy of the tentative
class schedule is attached.
2.I Washington Sales Representative for
Perceptual Development Laboratories, last week offered to loan us a
Perceptoscope temporarily for use in our classes.
The Perceptoscope is a. new y1 100 projector type machine which
is sold complete with reading materials for a course. We inspected
the machine last year, and decided that the materials and equipment
we now use are more suitable for Agency reading training, and the
Perceptoscope would not improve our course.

In view of the fact that the use of the machine will not add
substantially to the quality of our course, and the current offer could
entail embarrassing references to CIA, I have decided to decline the
offer.
