OTHER ACTIVITIES
1. The Training Materials Registry, ISB, has been receiving numerous
inquiries regarding the status of the following publications for Agency
use and retention:
a. The Basic Agent Tradecraft Training Manual (BATT Manual)
b. The Glossary of Intelligence Terminology
c. The American Thesis
The above publications had been scheduled for printing and reproduction
in recent months, only to have been delayed. The present inquiry for
this material has also brought up the question of the necessity of up-
to-date tradecraft and operational type training materials for overseas
and field use. The current supply of such training materials has been
exhausted or else is out-dated, and some concentrated effort must be
made to replenish the stock.
2. Bibliographies and Research.
a. Bibliography on India. I ETS instructor, has initiated 25X1
the work on this project; reference materials have been compiled and a
search of the Library of Congress is currently being made*
b. Reading List for Intelli ence Officers. A list of 58 annotated
titles have been compiled by LIB/ISB and will be reproduced. The material
deals with Communism, the USSR, Intelligence, and Espionage. This is an
attempt to present in one source a few of the more outstanding and up-to-
date publications dealing with Intelligence, for which there have been
numerous requests.
c. Research project dealing with the detailed activities of a
Communist Party member. OS TR, has requested a search
for books and articles which detail the activities of a CP member as
he attends meetings, pays dues, delivers the Daily Worker, etc*
d. Area Background Pamphlet File. has requested

3? Publications and Reproduction
a. Catalog of Courses - Revisions, June 1956, All Catalogs: plates
for the two Headquarters issues will be ready for proofreading Friday,
25 May; estimated completion date for all issues is the early part of
June; 2 copies each of the long-term schedules were distributed to
Training Liaison Officers prior to regular distribution of Catalog revisions*
b. Basic Tradecraft Manual - TR IM 2-6. Approximately 140 pages were
typed, proof-read, and edited by the E&R Section; text corrections have
necessitated retyping of certain pages prior to forwarding to Printing
Services Division/LO for printing.
c. Basic Tradecraft Manual, Supplement, TR IM 2-6a. The materials
and photographs for the Supplement are being compiled and prepared under
the direction of C/ISB.
d. Studies in Intelligence, No. III. The printed proof copy of the
text has been received from PSD/LO and forwarded to
for proof-reading.
e. The OTR Bulletin No. 15 issue has been received by E&R/ISB and
disseminated.
f. The estimated completion date for the bibliography, Hand-to-Hand
Combat, TR RM 0-525, is 4 June 1956; a total of 100 copies are being
printed, and these will be disseminated to interested customers.
g. Miscellaneous administrative communications: Approximately 2,900
copies of 17 original pages were reproduced, collated and distributed by
F&R/TSB.
h. CIA/Armed Forces Reserve Training. A total of 20 stencils were
reproduced and collated for PPS/TR.

Training Aids Completed during the Week
a. Language and Area Training. Miscellaneous cards and signs:
total 6; processed for reproduction a total of 2.lantern slides.
b. The photography unit of VAS/ISB completed a total of 26 special
photos and enlargements for the TR instructional staffs.
c. The layouts prepared by VAS/ISB for the revised Cable Secretariat
Handbook have been approved and the final artwork is being completed.
6. Progress on Major Training Aid Projects
a. The artwork and copy paste-up of the Russian Language Reader,
requested by the Russian staff of LETS is approximately 9576 completed.
b. The revised Graphics Register/OCR Display for the BOC Intelli-
gence Products Exhibit is 65% complete.
