Monday - 3 December 1955
At a luncheon meeting with the Director I Undertook to propose
a program for our Congressional relations in the forthcoming session,
including suggestions as to Senators and Congressmen who should be
invited to the Agency for briefings. I informed the Director that I
had been in contact with Sen. Long's office and had requested an
opportunity for I land myself to debrief him on his recent
trip to Russia. The Director has also requested Cord Meyer to build
up a dossier in defense of RFE's recent activities in Hungary, for
use in a possible congressional investigation. The Director feels
that emphasis should be placed on the reaction of the Soviet and
Satellite governments to RFE activities, which indicate that they have
been successful in reaching their targets. We also discussed the
problem and the possibility #hat
might become the subject of a congression nqu y. undertook to
keep Mr. Amory and other interested parties informed.
